    68RFE Transmission
The 68RFE transmission, the very first diesel-specific transmission offered by Chrysler, was introduced for the 2007 model year alongside the 6.7 Cummins Turbodiesel Midway. The transmission was an improvement over previous transmission designs in that it featured a band-less design with a filtration system that had been upgraded. These features permitted the extension of service intervals as well as the promotion of service costs being reduced.

Specific for Ram pickup trucks, the 68RFE is void of having PTO provisions. Trucks that were equipped with a 6.7L Cummins Turbodiesel were optionally offered an Aisin AS68RC automatic transmission that provided PTO provisions. The six-speed 68RFE automatic transmission is still currently used by vehicles today, but Ram 3500 models with the High Output Cummins platform are equipped with the Aisin AS69RC. The AS69RC offers an overall higher input torque capacity than that of the 68RFE transmission. And although the AS68RC and the AS69RC transmission are similarly designed, they are in fact separate products and not to be confused with one another.
